Set in 1941 in Kent, England, the play is about a writer and his second wife
who have invited two friends for dinner and a seance, which is to be
conducted by a local medium. The host is doing research for a novel about
spiritualism and hopes Madame Arcati will be a fraud, providing him with
humorous material for his book. After slamming down a few martinis and
dinner, Madame Arcati begins her excursion into the "other world". When
nothing much appears to happen, the guests disperse, and the writer is
smugly satisfied that his suspicions about Madame Arcati are right. Then
the ghost of his dead wife appears, and the fun begins!
Director Harper Mosley has assembled a terrific cast of talented Humboldt
actors for this fresh and funny story. Jim Buschmann, last seen as the
Inspector in our season's opener, Spider's Web, plays Charles, the haunted
husband. Elisa Woodruff, who just appeared as Grace Farrell in Annie, plays
Ruth, Charlesí second wife with Scott Q. Marcus and Shirley Santino as the
invited dinner guests, Dr. and Mrs. Bradman. Madame Arcati, played by Willi
Welton, conjures up the ghost of Charlesí first wife, Elvira, played by
Shelley Stewart. Carol Martinez is in the role of the maid, Edith. The
design team includes the outstanding talents of Joe Collins for set and
light design, Izora Burns, costumes, and sound, Deric Mendes . Stage
management is in the capable hands of Lori Ann Tipple with assistance from
Chris Ayers.
We wish to acknowledge and thank the Victorian Inn and Silva's Fine
Jewelry for partially underwriting this production.
The Art from the Hart Gallery will be featuring Heart Art, a mixed media
group show of Humboldt County artists during the run of Blithe Spirit.
Artistsí reception for Heart Art will take place at 6:30pm, January 31 at
the gallery.
