The Ferndale Repertory Theatre has revived the classic American war play -- Mr. Roberts, by Thomas Heggen and Joshua Logan. The play opened on Broadway in 1948 and became a popular film in 1953 with Henry Fonda in the title role. The NY Herald-Tribute called Mister Roberts "...the greatest of war plays." NY News called it "...a superlative comedy." Preview performance is Thursday, June, 3 at 8:00P.M.; tickets for Preview performance only are $5.00. Gala Opening Night is Friday, June 4 at 8:00pm. A reception for gallery artists of All Things Nautical precedes the performance in the Art From the Hart gallery in the theatre's Box Office at 6:30pm until performance time. Performances continue Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm through June 25. Our last show is Saturday, June 26 at 2:00pm. Ticket prices are $12 (general) and $10 (students & seniors). Thursday, June 24, is our Actor's Benefit Night where proceeds from the evening's show go to our hard-working cast and crew. For ticket reservations and information, please call 786-5483.

Mister Roberts tells the story of the U.S. Navy cargo vessel, USS Reluctant, and her crew. The ship carries cargo along a forgotten path in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Beyond this waterway, the real battles of the war are passing them by. It is the job of the easy going Lieutenant Roberts to keep the bleary-eyed crew happy while doing the mundane tasks of war, and to keep them away from their half-crazed Captain. This rowdy, realistic saga of a group of American sailors shows them fighting their own battle--against boredom and monotony, and against the tyranny of the obsessive Captain Morton.

Director Gene Cole has enlisted a terrific crew of seasoned actors. David Hamilton plays the title role of Mr. Roberts with J.R. Paterson as the cantankerous Captain, Nathan Pierce as Ensign Pulver, and Zack Rouse as the doctor. Stacie Nunes plays the Army nurse, Josh Kelly, John Ireland, Jason Piazza, Jorden Goodspeed, Forrest Patterson, Marshall Pierce, Peter Martin, and Treavor Mather, will play additional sailors on the naval supply ship. The talented design crew consists of Joe Collins (set), Jesse Talbert (lights), Vikki Young (costumes), and Gabriel Groom (sound). Halley Sears Shultz is stage manager. Poster Design is by John Stewart.

We wish to thank Larry & Lanie Parker of Benchmark Reality Group for partially underwriting this production.

And there's much more than comedy in Mr. Roberts; there's self-sacrifice, honor, love, and war. This World War II naval classic is a must see. For tickets and reservations, please call 786-5483.
