To Kill a Mockingbird is set in a small Alabama town in the 1930’s. The story is narrated by Maudie, a friendly neighbor of Atticus Finch, a lawyer who, despite threats to himself and his family, defends a black man accused of assaulting a white woman. In the stage adaptation, the narrator of the story, a grown-up Scout, looks back at her childhood, delivering a powerful message about prejudice, injustice, and humanity.

Director, Renee Grinnell, has assembled a great cast led by the patient, calm, and strong presence of Brad Curtis as Atticus Finch, a widower in his fifties raising two young children, Denim Ohmit, as his son Jem and Derby McLaughlin, as the playful and tough tomboy Scout. Louis Sterback is young Dill, a visiting neighbor boy who incites them into much of their mischief. Gary Franklin is the cruel, ignorant bigot Bob Ewell, the father of the alleged rape victim Mayella Ewell played by Wanda Stapp. Joseph Waters is the black man accused of the rape. The cast also includes Linda Stewart as Calpurnia, Geri Cose as the comforting neighbor Maudie, Bill Cose as the good-intentioned Sheriff Tate; Wanda Stapp is also cast as the confederate widow Mrs. Dubose, Samantha McLaughlin is the gossipy Stephanie Crawford, Gene Lodes is the coldly pragmatic prosecuting attorney, Mr. Gilmer, and Mark Bruce plays the sympathetic Judge Taylor. Michelle Kagan plays Mrs. Sykes, Darren Smallen is Mr. Cunningham, and Daniel L. Lawrence plays the shy Boo Radley. Design credits go to Daniel L. Lawrence (set and light), Gary Franklin (sound), Renee Grinnell (costume), Bruce Keller (scenic painting), and Dan Tubbs (poster and photography).

Set amidst the racism and poverty of the 1930's south, the story takes us to the roots of human behavior; innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos. For tickets and information, please call (707) 786-5483.
