"When I was a kid, the grownups said,'Hush, wait your turn.' And when I was grown up, the kids were doing all the talking. At last, is it finally my turn?"

This line is from Taking My Turn, a playful production of a group of older people finally taking their turns. This premiere production is a new senior acting program being sponsored by Ferndale Repertory Theatre and the Senior Theater Acting Resource (STAR). It will be a continuing program of the Ferndale Rep.

There are laughs and poignant moments all in regard to getting older. Yes, we're all getting there. And a group of Humboldt's fine seniors is going to tell it like it is.

Taking My Turn will be presented at Ferndale Repertory Theater July 13 at 8 p.m. and July 14 and 15 at 2 p.m. The group will perform at the Humboldt Senior Resource Center on July 22 at 2 p.m. and at the theater in Garberville July 29 at 2 p.m. All tickets will be $5 and proceeds will be shared by Eureka and Garberville senior centers and the Rep. Donations to STAR will be delightfully accepted at the door. Call Ferndale Rep for reservations, 786-5483.

The play opens with a hearty laugh as Ben is asked to share his columns on aging for a musical that is being written. Edna and Helen talk of how they keep alive. Janet is angry at being widowed and definitely wants to be left alone. Charles muses about what might have been. John remembers his childhood kite, his adult life, but now wants to be an actor on television. Eric recounts some memories that bring him to where he is. Dorothy and Ben share their love as they sing the lovely It Still Isn't Over.

Come join the cast and party as they share how life only gets better.

The cast: Homer Harlan, Tommie Stanley, Bob Wells, Evelyn Wunderlich, Trudy Barton, James L. Geth, Izora Burns, Ray Sanders all join hostess Mary Ellen Norton and her grandson Caleb Roberts, the maestro of piano and acoustics.

Supporting the cast of Taking My Turn is director Denise Ryles, assistant director Tania Jewel, vocal coach Nan Voss, choreographer Loene Gossett, photographer Dan Tubbs, costume designer Rosemary Smith of The Costume Box with additional costumes provided by Izora Burns of Flashback, and cast members.

Mary Ellen Norton plays the hostess in the show.
