The Ferndale Repertory Theatre’s annual school matinee brings children to the theatre from schools throughout Humboldt county. This year's production is inspired by the story The Three Languages by the Brothers Grimm and explores the theme of learning. Torgrid, the son of a Swiss Count, enjoys nature and the world around him. His father believes he is wasting his time on frivolous pursuits. Torgrid grows to be a young man and his father, frustrated with his son’s seemingly devil-may-care attitude, sends him to tutors throughout the land to make a scholar out of him. Upon returning home each time, Torgrid is asked what he has learned, and his father, dismayed by his answers, finally sends him away without so much as a pfennig to his name. Out on his own, Torgrid uses his unusual knowledge to help others, finally returning home when he learns that his father is ill and needs him.Torgrid and the Tutors” is a story about the importance of learning – not only learning through books and in school, but also heeding the lessons of the world around you. The play will be performed by FRT veteran actors; Renee Grinnell, Marilyn McCormick, Gary Franklin and Jim Berry. Shows begin at 10 A.M. on December 2, 3, 4,
9, 10, 11. The production is
kindergarten through sixth grade appropriate and available to all elementary
schools for a price of $1 per ticket, thanks to a grant from the Bertha Russ
Lytel Foundation. A
