Clarence Darrow lived his life fighting against the death penalty, racism, conspiracy laws, civil liberties violations, inequality and social injustice. A hero for his time, for our time... for all time.

"Anderson, as Darrow, shows how one man not only challenged injustice but affected the course of American Jurisprudence." ~ San Mateo County Times, CA

"This is one of the finest one man shows that I have ever seen." ~ Siskiyous Daily News, CA

Starring Gary L. Anderson, America's only full time Darrow portrayer.

"Anderson takes command of the stage and does not let go" ~ San Leandro Times, CA

Description

Darrow never lost a Death Penalty case and his record of saving 102 men from being executed is an historical fact. With a national debate focused on the preservation of civil liberties amid concerns for the public safety from terrorism, this powerful and absorbing portrayal of a remarkable American is uniquely appropriate to our current national state of mind.

Darrow: "Conspiracy laws, from the days of tyranny in England, down to today, when those in power use it as a club, has been the favorite weapon of every tyrant. It is an effort to punish the crime of thought. If there are still any citizens interested in protecting human liberty, let them study the conspiracy laws of the United States, which have grown until today no ones liberty is safe!" (1894)

In this play, Darrow recounts the greatest trials of his career, including his own jury tampering trial in Los Angeles, while providing personal insights into his character and philosophies through often humorous and moving anecdotes and trial excerpts.

"Anderson's performance was powerful and completely absorbing". ~ Trinity Journal, CA

"Captures both the homespun self-effacing humor and the fiery oratorical skills that made Darrow a legend among trial lawyers." ~ Shasta-Trinity Counties Bar Association, CA

As a lawyer, Darrow braved the wrath of the entire nation in unforgettable courtroom dramas that pitted one man against the entrenched forces of the Establishment.

"Our nation is, once again, in a situation that encourages some people at the highest levels of government to believe it is all right to deny certain persons traditional American justice; and these same officials would limit freedom of expression for national security reasons. This play is entirely timely and appropriate for our current national situation". ~ Trinity Journal, CA

His clients were considered abominable, vilified in the press and hated by the vast majority of Americans. His private life was considered scandalous. Here is the passionate story of a man larger than life in his appetites, his ambition, and his genius.

"This production is magnificent!" ~ Richard Hine, Editor, The Almanac, CA
